It starts with design, coordination, and a clear understanding of how people will use the room.

Start With the Room, Not the Equipment

The most common AV planning mistake is beginning with a product list. A large display, ceiling speakers, wireless presentation hardware, and a video bar may sound like a complete system, but they do not answer the practical questions that determine whether the room performs well.

For new construction, AV requirements should be identified before walls close and ceilings are finished. This gives the project team time to plan conduit, backing, cable routes, floor boxes, rack locations, and required power. Making these decisions late often leads to exposed cabling, costly rework, delayed inspections, or compromises in equipment placement.

In occupied properties, the priority may shift to minimizing disruption. A phased installation can keep conference rooms, leasing offices, retail locations, or common areas operating while upgrades are completed. The right approach depends on access windows, tenant schedules, building conditions, and the condition of existing infrastructure.
